New Client :: Peace Corps

Hi all -

We’re thrilled to be working as a sub-contractor to fellow Baltimore design firm Novak Birch for one of our dream clients: The Peace Corps. The contract is for print design work on collateral materials that will be used to further the Peace Corps recruitment campaign “Life is Calling. How Far Will You Go?” Our design work will create a visual brand framework that can then be applied to new and existing recruitment materials.

The Peace Corps has helped 139 countries around the world with issues ranging from AIDS education to communication/information technology to clean water.

Building awareness for Peace Corps, driving interest to their website and recruiters, and generating applications is accomplished in large part through collateral material that recruiters use.

We’re proud to be designing Peace Corps recruitment materials and look forward to sharing our work on this site. Stay tuned!

Brand Strategy, Simplified

Hi all,

We work hard to make sure our clients’ brands are as strong as possible each and every day. But that job becomes even easier if the company’s business model is an amazing one. That’s why as marketing director, I strive each and every day to reach out to and do business with companies and organizations we admire, like our newest client that I cannot yet mention publicly (wait for it).

Last week on Twitter (are you following me yet?), I overheard a Twitter conversation in which Sarah Krueger, otherwise known as @HookEmSarah, remarked on a comment overheard in a JetBlue strategy meeting. I had to share it with you, because I think it is important to remember that brands can only be as good as the companies they represent.

The Twitter post read:

“@HookEmSarah Presenting a communication audit on @JetBlue. Strategy? Be awesome and they will come.”

Brilliant. The idea of pairing a great concept with a desirable visual brand is exactly what we’ve been focused on achieving. It reinforces my strategy of creating a “dream client” list within our firm and reaching out to these companies in hopes of doing their design + communications work. Doing this ensures that while we don’t necessarily win a new client every day, when we do it’s one that we can truly be proud of.

Happy Monday.

Bloggers Unite

humanrightsbadge7.jpg

I have recently signed up for Bloggers Unite, which is an effort by all bloggers to draw attention to human rights issues at the same time. Here's a description from their Web site:

While the words might change from country to country and are sometimes taken for granted, human rights represent one of the universally agreed upon ideas - that all people are born with basic rights and freedoms that include life, liberty, and justice. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations. Bloggers Unite For Human Rights challenges bloggers everywhere to help elevate human rights by drawing attention to the challenges and successes of human rights issues on May 15.

What those topics may include - the wrongful imprisonment of journalists covering assemblies, governments that ignore the plight of citizens, and censorship of the Internet. What is important is that on one day, thousands of bloggers unite and share their unified support of human rights everywhere. Please visit the site and sign up to join me.

Cool Retro Designs

Thanks Ande and Charles for passing along this awesome link about retro designs. As you probably know if you’re a loyal OE Insights reader, I am a big fan of the use of historical elements in design. If you’re the same way, you’ll probably love this link.
